After a long hiatus Michael J Fox checks the gate and adjusts to the temperature.
"I think my biggest concern these days is whether it rains or not. I've adjusted my relationship to
film.
IN ROCKWE TRUST: How did you feel about Spin City?
Michael J Fox: I was not in Spin City. I just leant my name to the project. It looked sucessful , I
decided to end it so I could go back to work. I love film. After about 100 takes a week every thing
seems to blend.
INROCKWETRUST: Why a hundred?
FOX: A hundred is an expression. What I mean is that after I find the character part of me I can go
for long clips at a time. Watching the stand-in version was ok at first. Then one day I looked at a
promo or a billboard and I thought hey wait a minute did they say Michael J Fox?
The abstractness of directing allows you to experience something Weird like that.
INROCKWETRUST: Do you feel mostly character when your on?
FOX: In a binary sense of the word on. I find that I expect alot more out of people around me to
maintain their professionalism so it does have an effect on me. I think the other reason is that I'm
wearing a hat only it's a night cap by that time. I think the film and the performance are very
important. For instance I'm able perform what's in my mind. I can't step outside the floor plan
that I have very often. There are too many goals that have to be realized.
INROCKWETRUST: You mean as a performer?
FOX: As a performer like anyone eles its the vehicle. Why people drive Ferrari's. It's the same
reason why people watch 1080i . Quality has a feel to it. As a performer it's just like being a
Ferrari the expanse of the material allows you to glide and it's sexy. I think the aperture has
definately become an important thing. Life has a quality as well. So does a person's time.
One of the great things about working on film is the viewing. I don't have any remorse about
watching myself in Back to the future for instance or Bright lights Big City. I can tell where I left
off. So in answer to your previous question maybe I am mostly character. At any rate I stay there
the longer I'm with the material. Diabetics are nice people, that's what I wake up and say to
myself every day.
It's just fun being nasty. I try not to give in I'm always in a nice mood.
I'm meeting with SONY as we speak on my image rights and where my AFTRA rights begin.
To me Back to the Future and Bright lights Big City as well as the televison show where I created
the character on a weekly basis is great mind candy to me. I think the future is bright enough to do
somethinng eles although I don't know what that something else is I feel good about doing it.
I think a good character reflects yourself in some way that you could not previously express your
own opinon and explore your own options with. That way when it's zero you can turn on a sony
home entertainment center and relax- even if it rains.
I liked alot of the ideas that WeirdMagazineBid had and I sent over a few of their scripts to Tri-
Star for specualtion on a new film project.
